Paddington Quilt Top finished

Today was a good day to be indoors - and to get some decent sewing done. I recently posted about a sneak peak of a Paddington Bear Quilt Top that I am working on. At the time of the sneak peak, I had only put together two out of the 40 blocks, as previously shown. Today I finished the remaining 38 blocks, and completed the quilt top.

Good use of the chain piecing technique.
First draft of the layout. Some re-positioning of blocks did follow
Below are photo's of the completed quilt top. I made one error (not major), being that the quilt was only meant to be approx 36" x 48" to fit a cot, but I ended up piecing together an extra row. I will have to talk to the recipient to see whether this is acceptable otherwise I will need to un-stitch a row. I don't really know how this happened but it would have been a combination of being distracted and over compensating (i.e I pieced together a dozen extra blocks in case I didn't like the outcome). With regards to distraction - I always put on a couple of movies when sewing to distract me from the long hours of repeated sewing. Its nice to let the subconscience take over for a while to give me a break

Sorry, the focus is apparently on Heidi, not the quilt top.
Close up
The Paddington Bear cuts as you see above came from a piece of fabric approx 1.5m long. Initially I wanted to use the entire fabric for this quilt, so when cutting out the Paddington Bear cuts, I tried to waste as little fabric as possible - hence why some of the Paddington's are not perfectly centered some of the block. I had in mind using the remaining fabric on the blocks where the white fabric has been used. However after running some calculations, I realised I wouldn't have enough - In the end I resorted to my large stash of white fabric. I may make some pillow/cushion cases out of the remaining fabric.
Wall hanging
No further progress on my other projects: 1) the boys baby quilt I will un-pin and baste using fabric adhesive spray - this has to be completed before the end of the month; 2) the fiery star quilt is still hanging on my wall, I am still waiting on the backing fabric from fabric.com; 3) the second vanishing point quilt is also hanging on my wall, I foresee this one remaining there for atleast February before a decision be made to finish it: 4) the green tea quilt has hit a serious road block, I really don't like this quilt anymore but determined to get this finished - I have all the fabric to complete this so when my more urgent projects are done I will get this one out of the way and will likely donate this to a charity; 5) I have just started on a new project being, a Red Hot Chili Peppers (the band) Quilt using octagons - this has been really interesting as I have had to create my own template for the inner triangles (angles are 45, 67.5 & 67.5 degrees) of the octagon - I'm enjoying the challenge of this one and will post some progress next week. Another item on the back burner is my new years resolutions post - this will be done before January.

Not sure I approved this one.
I can't resist a photo of Heidi sleeping! This time she snuck up on the couch and made full use of my quilt and pillow. Naughty :)
