Blackout

Beautiful day in Wellington today, albeit a little windy - probably the two most commonly used words in my posts (Wellington & wind). Today is not bad at all, in fact most days are not too bad, and looking out the office window today reminds me of sailing. Here are a couple of pictures of Dad's racer Blackout - Ross 9.14 located in sunny Nelson. One of two boats in New Zealand of this design - a very quick boat indeed.

A windy day there on this day, but all the more impressive when you see the yacht flying across Tasman Bay under Gennaker. This boat can get up to speeds of close to 20 knots and possibly above if conditions right i.e. finding the right wave to surf down!

The boat will be in Wellington during January for the Wellington to Nelson race for which I will be crewing on (I will probably chucked on the bow for the sail changes), and possibly once again during the Wellington Regatta - if sufficient crew can make it over. Its always a fine line between using experienced and new crew. Using new crew on a race yacht can really affect your chances of doing well in races and it is amazing how much those race results can affect the dollar value of the boat! This might be the reason why Dad is always trying to get me over to race :)

I hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

Stay Safe :)

  1. Happy New Year. Fabulous Tasman Bay pics. I lived in Queens Road for a couple of years looking out over The Cut. I love watching the yachts.
